We encourage all CAASTRO researchers and students to submit abstracts for both talks and/or posters.  There will be some fabulous prizes for the best talk, best student talk, best poster and best student poster.

NB: The retreat is free for CAASTRO members, however registration is required.

Frequently Asked Questions:

There has been a group reservation made at Peppers the Sands Resort for all CAASTRO members and CAASTRO will cover the costs.  Thus, there is no need for delegates to book accommodation.  Rooms will be allocated once registration closes.  Accommodation payments will come out of your node budget and will be arranged via your node.

All meals are covered for by CAASTRO.  If you have any dietary requirements, please ensure you make a note of these when you register for the retreat under the dietary information field.  Also please tick the meals you will attend.

Getting there:
Please refer to the to this schedule.  We recommend catching these flights from each major city to Melbourne's Tullamarine terminal.  These flights will be met by a charter bus which will take you to Torquay.

  • Your node administrator may be able to assist with booking your flights.  Flight payments will come out of the node budgets if you are a CI, Post Doc, Student or Professional Staff member
  • If you plan to fly to Avalon please let us know so we can arrange transfers.

Charter Bus:
Two charter buses have been booked for Wednesday 20 November and CAASTRO will cover the cost of the bus.

  1. Tullamarine Airport: 12:45pm to take delegates to Peppers. 
    pick up from bus Zone L in front of the international terminal, please refer to map
  2. Melbourne City Centre: Federation Square, Russell Street Extenstion, 12:30pm to take delegates to Peppers, please refer to map.

A pick up can be arranged from Avalon Airport - please indicate under the "Flight and Transport Information Field" your preferred pick up location by typing "Tullamarine" or "Avalon"

Charter buses will also be available for the return trips, to the airport and Melbourne City Centre, on Friday 22 November at the conclusion of the Retreat. The buses will arrive at Tullamarine and Federation Square at approximately 6:00pm

Wireless access will be available in the conference rooms each day.    Please bring your own wireless access devices if you have critical work you will need to access. 


The free full-day training workshop "Writing clear science for grant applications" for CAASTRO PhD students and Early Career Researchers will be held at the University of Melbourne on Tuesday 19 November. Please register your interest with wiebke.ebeling@curtin.edu.au no later than Friday 1 November 2013.
